Thumb Generation with FFmpeg

2 minute read

Starting from tinyMediaManager v4.1 you will be able to generate thumbs/stills from your video file using FFmpeg. While tinyMediaManager does not ship an own copy of FFmpeg, you are able to install FFmpeg on your system and use that from within tinyMediaManager.

To use this feature, you have to set up thea few things (Settings -> System -> FFmpeg):

  1. The location of the FFmpeg binary (which will be called from tinyMediaManager)
  2. The position in the video file where the thumb/still should be taken from

After you have set up the settings for FFmpeg, you can create thumbs/stills via:

Movies: Right click in the movie table and choose “Enhanced editing -> Create a thumb with FFmpeg of selected movie(s)”
TV shows: Right click in the TV show table and choose “Enhanced editing -> Create a thumb with FFmpeg of selected episode(s)”

Note: This does not work with ISO files or DVD/BluRay structures
